Scottish prices show continued rise
The average house price in Scotland was up in the third quarter of
this year, new figures have revealed.
Data from the Registrars of Scotland for the third quarter of 2008
show a year-on-year rise of 0.1 per cent from the equivalent period
in 2007.
The largest increase was recorded in East Dunbartonshire, where the
average house price rose 10.8 per cent year-on-year to
£211,824.
Edinburgh remains the place with the highest prices in the country
at an average of £226,516, compared with £160,155 for the
whole of Scotland.
These figures represent a 2.9 per cent rise from the second quarter
of 2008 - when the average was £155,705 - suggesting Scotland
may have passed through a short downturn before values started to
increase again.
Such figures contrast with most recent national house price
surveys, which have indicated falls in value around the
country.
One of these was the October Halifax House Price Index, which
showed a 2.2 per cent drop in values last month.
However, Halifax noted that this means prices are still 22 per cent
up on the figure of five years ago.
